Add solids filtration without losing sight of the existing plant

A filtration retrofit starts with the existing plant: its hydraulic levels, treatment performance, space and operating constraints. RF-HCF and RF-VCF provide different layout options for a pile cloth filtration stage. If the existing machine is suitable, a replacement-media inquiry may be enough instead of a new system.

Distinguish media replacement from a new stage

Replacing cloth in a serviceable disc or drum filter is different from adding a complete filtration stage. Record the existing frame dimensions, attachment details and operating problem before deciding whether new media or new hardware is needed.

Check integration before quoting capacity

Review peak flow, water levels, inlet solids, bypass arrangements, redundancy and the route for cleaning water. Confirm maintenance clearance and lifting access as well as the installation footprint. The maximum hydraulic table value is not a final retrofit design.

Link the filter to the treatment goal

For suspended-solids polishing, assess the water reaching the filter. For phosphorus reduction, distinguish particulate phosphorus from dissolved phosphate and include the necessary precipitation and flocculation steps. If biological treatment itself is insufficient, address that upstream duty rather than expecting the cloth to solve it.

Media selection for RF-HCF and RF-VCF

Select the cloth and hardware together. Influent solids, particle characteristics and the required effluent quality determine the appropriate media grade. A finer cloth does not by itself guarantee a phosphorus limit or a particular flow rate.

Questions and answers

Can an existing filter be upgraded with new cloth?

Potentially. R+F checks compatibility with the frame, fastening arrangement, cleaning system and treatment conditions. A change of cloth alone is not a guarantee of higher hydraulic capacity or a new effluent limit.

Horizontal or vertical for a retrofit?

Compare RF-HCF and RF-VCF against the available footprint and height, hydraulic levels and service access. There is no universally preferred layout.
