Horizontal pile cloth disc filter — RF-HCF
RF-HCF is the horizontal pile cloth disc filter series for suspended-solids separation in water and wastewater treatment. It provides a system option for tertiary polishing and for capturing phosphorus-bearing flocs after suitable chemical pretreatment. R+F selects the cloth and configuration against the actual treatment duty.

When RF-HCF fits the process
Consider this series when an elongated installation layout is available and a disc filtration stage is required after upstream treatment. The series includes different disc counts within one product family. Assess access for maintenance, hydraulic connections and sludge return alongside the footprint.
Filtration and cloth cleaning
Water passes through the pile cloth while suspended particles are retained. The retained solids must be removed through the filter cleaning system and directed to an appropriate sludge or backwash-water route. Cleaning and hydraulic control must be matched to the installed configuration.
Phosphorus reduction is a process-chain task
Cloth filtration captures particulate phosphorus and suitably formed phosphorus-bearing flocs. It does not directly remove dissolved phosphate. Where dissolved phosphorus must be reduced, precipitation and flocculation must be designed with the downstream filter. No universal phosphorus effluent value follows from the cloth grade alone.
Models and hydraulic reference values
Source: R+F series specifications. These are maximum hydraulic reference values, not guaranteed operating flow rates. Final sizing must also check solids loading, influent characteristics, required effluent quality, backwash demand, peak flow and availability. Intermediate configurations are available, subject to engineering verification.

Media selection for RF-HCF and RF-VCF
Select the cloth and hardware together. Influent solids, particle characteristics and the required effluent quality determine the appropriate media grade. A finer cloth does not by itself guarantee a phosphorus limit or a particular flow rate.
Compare R+F filter mediaQuestions and answers
Is the maximum hydraulic value the guaranteed plant capacity?
No. It is a hydraulic reference value from the R+F series table. The permissible operating flow also depends on solids loading, water characteristics, the selected media, backwash requirements and the effluent target.
Can RF-HCF be used to retrofit an existing plant?
It can be assessed as a retrofit option. Available levels, footprint, upstream performance, connection points, cleaning-water handling and service access must be checked before selecting a configuration.
Does RF-HCF remove dissolved phosphorus?
Not directly. The filter separates particles. Dissolved phosphate requires an appropriate preceding treatment step, such as precipitation and flocculation, before the resulting solids can be captured.
