Small wastewater plants: biology and solids capture together
When a small wastewater plant needs both biological treatment and reliable separation of the resulting solids, the two stages should be designed together. RF-RBC brings a rotating biological contactor and cloth filtration into one project concept, with R+F as the contact for process requirements and media selection.

Start with the problem, not the equipment size
First establish whether the existing bottleneck is dissolved biodegradable pollution, suspended solids, or both. A cloth filter alone cannot replace biological treatment. If the biological stage already achieves its target and only solids polishing is needed, RF-HCF or RF-VCF may be the more appropriate route.
Which applications deserve assessment?
Small municipal plants and decentralised facilities with biodegradable wastewater can be assessed for this combined concept. Seasonal operation, peak loading and prolonged low-load periods must be included in the biological design rather than assumed to be harmless.
Information needed for a useful proposal
Provide average and peak flow, BOD₅ and COD where available, suspended solids, the minimum wastewater temperature, existing pretreatment and the discharge requirements. Add the available space and a description of sludge handling. Unknown values can be clarified during the technical review.
Keep operation in the design brief
Plan access to the rotating equipment and filter cloth, inspection and cleaning tasks, sludge removal and responsibilities for operation. Scope of supply and service are agreed individually. A compact unit still needs a complete operating and residuals-management concept.
Questions and answers
Should every small plant use RF-RBC?
No. It is a process option to assess where biological treatment and subsequent solids separation are both needed. Existing process performance, wastewater characteristics and discharge requirements determine suitability.
Can I start an inquiry without laboratory results?
Yes. Describe the application and identify which values are unknown. The initial inquiry is not a final design; the missing process data must be resolved before performance is specified.
